REDWOODS FIBRE
Farm to fleece
We gather in our Highlander sheep from the pastures once a year for shearing day. My sister Suzie has an eye for the best fleeces, collecting them up to send off to a family run mill in Dorset for washing and processing into roving and yarn.
Highlander wool
Our Highlander sheep are a composite breed comprising of Romney, Finn and New Zealand Texel, making their fleece very similar to Romney, with a slightly tighter crimp. Find out more about our sheep here.
Natural dying
Suzie dyes our fibre, using plants she's grown herself or foraged for - or waste products from cooking such as onion skins. The results are gentle tones of greens, oranges, yellows, browns and greys. The beauty of the natural world captured into our fibre.
Where to find our fibre
We're in the process of setting up our fibre range on our online shop, which will be available for nationwide delivery. If you have an exciting project that just can't wait, you can find us at the Frome Independent market every month or contact us here.
Keep an eye out for any events at which we'll have our fibre range too - such as our open farm events and the Great British Fibre Festival.
