Summer Open Farm

Join us for the first of our 2025 Redwoods Events as we show you how we farm alongside nature.  Join us for a farm walk, sheep shearing demo, meet our animals, browse local stalls, enjoy hot food and more!

Date: Saturday 12th July 2025
Time: 12.30pm - 5.30pm
Location: Redwoods Farm, EX16 7PD

What's on?

You'll find hot food, drinks, family fun activities as well as local stalls and Redwoods produce and fibre stalls to browse throughout the event.  We also have some farm activities scheduled during the event.  Make sure to arrive in time to fit in everything you'd like to see!

Shearing demo - 1.30pm
To celebrate the launch of our Redwoods fibre range last year, my sister Suzie did the first shearing demo of our sheep, as well as showing how the fleece is prepared at the farm before it's taken away for processing.  It proved so popular we've persuaded her to come back for a second year!

Suzie, a full-time vet, is part of the team who shear our sheep once a year.  She also dyes our fibre that you'll find on the Redwoods Fibre stand using things she's grown or foraged.  Suzie will talk to you about how how we farm our sheep and how the breed impacts the wool quality, as well as talking you through the shearing process, while shearing the sheep!

Farm walk - 3pm
(with a longer option)
Please bring suitable footwear

Join us as we head down the field to move the cows and calves on our first stop.  You'll see the girls rush through to their new pasture and hear the relaxing sound of happy grazing.  You can chat to us about why we move our girls every day, what breeds we keep and what keeping a 100% pasture fed herd of cattle is like.

For the more adventurous, this is where the longer option starts!

We'll go all the way down to the bottom of the field where you'll find our bee hives.  Andy from The Devon Bee Shed put 2 of his hives earlier this year on the farm and we're loving seeing the bees busily foraging around the farm.  Andy will talk to you about how he manages his bees to allow them to live in the most natural ways and tell you a bit about the exciting life of bees.

From there, we'll go into the next field to feed the pigs where you can see the start of our agroforestry project in action.  I (Amy) will tell you about how I manage pasture raised pigs and how these little trouble makers love to spend their days.

On our way back up the farm, we'll stop by the chickens, where you can see what makes our pasture raised chicken so special.  I promise we'll get you back in time to have a browse of the stalls before you need to head home!

Supporting local businesses

A huge part of our events is showcasing other local, sustainable businesses.  They help to create the lovely, welcoming community you'll find at Redwoods events.  Make sure to browse their stalls when you visit - you never know what treasures you may find!

At our Summer Open Farm you'll find:

Katie from Katie Chapple Photography

As a very talented photographer, we've been fortunate that Katie has done most of the photography for our website!

Having grown up on a farm and around animals all her life, Katie has a real affinity for capturing them in their natural environment, with the patience for catching that perfect image.  You'll be able to purchase a range of cards & prints at our event.  She specialises in pet and family photography, so you can chat with Katie if you want to book your own photoshoot with her.  Check out her Instagram, Facebook (@katiechapplephotography) or website to find out more.

Jenna from The Wood Nest
Jenna is a designer maker who produces a unique range of gifts and more using locally sourced sawmill offcuts or reclaimed wood, to create a canvas for new work, inspired by her adventures in nature.

With a brilliant eye for detail, you can feel Jenna's love for the natural world around her in her art pieces.  Find Jenna on Instagram (@thewoodnestdevon) or visit her website to find out more.

Paula from Felting Feels
Paula has had a love of textiles for many years, knitting or sewing many wonderful things, but she really found her passion when she started expanding her knowledge of the heritage craft of felting over four years ago.

Since then Paula has invested a lot of time mastering the art and amazes me with the huge range of felted creations she handcrafts, specialising in British & local Devon fibres.  She's more than happy to explain the felting process and show you her products when you visit her stall.  If you'd like to find out more, check out her Instagram (@feltingfeels) or website to find out more.

Francesca from Francesca Mack Smith Silver Jewellery
Francesca is an artist and maker producing carefully considered silver and enamel jewellery that reflects the nature around her since her move to Devon.

Working with recycled silver, adding colour with enamels, Francesca handmakes delicate pieces from pendants to rings and much more, in a distinctive style interpreting colours from the natural world.  Attending markets & craft fayres, along with taking on commissions, to see more find Francesca on Instagram (@francesca_mack_smith).

Tim at From Tim’s Workshop
Tim has the amazing vision to acquire salvage items that he can repurpose, restore and upcycle to create unique pieces of agri art, homewares and furniture.

With the use of woods such as oak, elm, sycamore and even pallet wood combined with metal objects others would consider scraps, interesting pieces come to life under Tim’s expert hands. We are fortunate to have him represented at our event, as he attends various markets, locally at Tiverton and further afield such as North Devon, Dorset and more. Find him on Instagram (@from_tims_workshop).

Andy from The Devon Bee Shed
Andy is a very exciting addition to our team, not least because he brought 2 bee hives onto Redwoods Farm earlier this year!  You'll be the first to have the opportunity to buy Redwoods honey, crafted by the bees from nectar foraged in our diverse hedgerows and fields.

We've seen first hand the care and attention Andy puts into looking after his bees, using the least intrusive methods he can to allow the bees to live their natural lives.  You'll be able to visit the bee hives as part of the farm walk and hear from Andy about how he manages the bees as well as learning more about these fascinating creatures.  You can find Andy on Instagram (@thedevonbeeshed) and his website.

Meg from Shed 44 Ceramics
Meg offers unique and small batch ceramics, handmade in her home studio in the shed at the end of her Devon garden.

Meg's approach is constantly evolving as she hones her personal style, being influenced by the colours in nature, and form and function working together.  Meg is not a production potter, so no two pieces are the same (some maybe similar, as sisters, but not twins!).  She finds the beauty in ceramics is the endless variation to be had, and the tension created when the boundaries between form and function are pushed.

Ultimately, Meg aims for all her makes to be a pleasure to use as well as aesthetically pleasing, so why not check out her stall for beautiful ceramics, or chat about a special piece.  You can find Meg on Instagram (@shed44ceramics) and her website.

Jan from Blue Shed Flowers
Just six miles from Redwoods Farm, tucked away in a valley on the Devon Somerset border is a field of flowers grown with care and a passion for beauty and nature.  Using organic methods and a no-dig approach, enables Jan to work as sustainably as possible, both in growing methods and floristry practice.

Jan's inspiration comes from the rural landscape and takes her cue from the seasons.  Using her fine art training, Jan is able to bring an awareness of form and colour to inspired bouquets, arrangements and installations.  Pick up a bouquet of freshly cut and artfully arranged blooms and have a chat with Jan about flower growing and the power of flowers!  You can find Jan on Instagram (@blueshedflowers) or her website.

Food and drinks

What is a summer event at Redwoods without a BBQ?   You'll be able to choose from a selection of Redwoods meat options, along with kids and vegetarian options.

We will be cooking the BBQ fresh to order, so please make sure you put your food order in as you arrive to minimise waiting time!

The Horse Box from Yum Yumz
We're really excited to announce that The Horse Box will be joining us to offer cakes, along with hot & cold drinks.

Run by sisters Zoe & Marnie, their vintage horsebox is fully kitted out to offer barista coffees, cold drinks and their delicious homemade cakes and sweet treats!

Taw River Dairy Ice Cream from Moor Taw
We'll also have a selection of tasty Taw River Dairy ice creams, to help keep you cool as the weather is set to be hot!

This award-winning ice cream is produced from a small herd of Jersey cows by Sam and family, who are farming with nature with as much care as us here Redwoods Farm.
